You think you’re done with collecting fox pelts, and then you remember that red foxes are the freaking Eevees of real life.

These are some of the color mutations I’m still hoping to acquire. A mountable Moon Glow or Pearl would be a dream come true.

How about you take some time to learn about ranched foxes? Here, I’ll save you the trouble.

Ranched animals are products of human invention. Ranchers have bred these foxes to produce specific color mutations to sell on the fur market and have been doing so for years. None of these foxes could survive in the wild as they’re too far instinctually removed from their wild cousins. Letting them live in the way I assumed you meant it would only leave them to die slow or painful deaths out in the wild.

Their fur is used in the fashion industry or sometimes for taxidermy. Their meat can end up in a variety of places, including pet food and fertilizers The truth is that they’re the product of a demanding market, not wild animals that are part of an ecosystem and certainly not pets. If we didn’t have this controlled source of fur harvesting, we’d have to resort back to hunting wild animals, which holds many dangers that humans have been able to avoid by creating our own products. We do the same things with plants, and I rarely see anyone getting upset over harvesting a few tons of corn to feed the masses.

The hard truth is that these foxes are destined for the harvest since they’re bred for that specific purpose. I love animals, but I’m also a realist. If someone’s offering me a desirable product, I see not problem in wanting to purchase it whether it be food or fur.

If they were removed from a fur farm, the majority of them would die anyway because they’d be put to sleep and thrown out because there’s nowhere to put them. Wild animal rescues fill up faster than they make room and no shelter is equipped for one. If you’re very lucky you might find a zoo with a vacancy. Y’know. Maybe.

The bottom left is absolutely stunning. oh what I would give to have such a pelt~
